Rockabilly is a fast-paced rock’n’swing partner dance with an attitude.

Rockabilly is a freely performed and improvised partner dance danced to quartet music, characterised by a clear base beat in the body. The dance includes downward elasticity with each stroke with the leader’s stepping relatively free, as well as twist body rotations.

Rockabilly is easy to dance to, and it’s possible to dance in a small space. There are many styles depending on where in the world it is danced. Rockabilly music is fast-paced 2/4 or 2/2 beat music. The drum comp and the double bass give a characteristic freight train-like rhythm.

Rockabilly / Jiving was born in the US in the mid-1950s as a party dance and was popular as a subculture. It regained popularity in Europe in the late 1970s and is still going strong.
